Although this article doesn't mention transgender status, the fact that the manifestations of male and female attitudes and behaviors vary across a continuum shows that our gender expressions are malleable. Taken to its extremes, women can have penises and men can have vaginas. Our sex doesn't denote our gender, any more than we can assume the attitudes of a woman or a man based upon his/her sexual attributes. This article also suggests to me that although transgender status is statistically abnormal, it is certainly not neurobiologically abnormal.
