"A Church that doesn't provoke any crisis, a gospel that doesn't unsettle, a word of God that doesn't get under anyone's skin, a word of God that doesn't touch the real sin of society in which it is being proclaimed, what gospel is that? Archbishop Oscar Romero (1917-1980) "Never let other people define your reality or put you into bondage to their ways of thinking." Jerry Maneker.
Amen, genevieve! Jesus even made that clear when He said that if you hate anyone in your heart you have committed murder. (Matthew 5:21-22) Homophobic clergy who preach hate from their pulpits or other venues have, in my opinion, been the major cause of suicides, assaults, and murders of LGBT people! Best wishes, Jerry.
I find this stuff deeply disturbing. I assume these people are all members of the regular worshipping community - yeah, right! -but in the end this isn't about "the gay issue" it is about the authority of scripture and until we get that right, depressingly, nothing else will change.
Thanks Doorman-Priest. The sad fact is that many bashers and killers of Gay people could well be "members of the regular worshipping community," or at least refer to themselves as "Bible-believing Christians."
There is so much hateful rhetoric spewed by all too many clergy within the institutional church and elsewhere that disdain of Gay people has all too often become fused with homophobic interpretations of "the authority of Scripture."
As you know, the authority of Jesus is what's essential, and He told us to love God and to love and not judge others. He certainly didn't tell those who would be His disciples to see to it that the civil rights of God's Gay children were rescinded! Best wishes, Jerry.

Your so right, Jerry. It's been done throughout the ages. Clergy like those who hate are really murderers.
