In case we need reminding: This is how truly despicable homophobes can be!
"In an email exchange between Colleen Holmes [Who previously worked for the Christian Broadcasting Network as well as the Christian Legal Society, and is currently the director of the anti-gay political group Eagle Forum.] and Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness (CMR), a group dedicated to opposing women and gays in the military, Holmes suggests concocting a smear campaign against gays to ensure they are not granted open military service.
"The email encourages the use of 'horror stories' as a tactic to reverse the tide of pro-gay sentiment being expressed by many high-ranking military and Congressional leaders...."
"Holmes admits that finding such stories would be difficult, but promises they would be an effective tool in the culture war against gays and lesbians...."
This scenario should further reinforce the need to become far more aggressive in our desire for full and equal civil rights in not only the military organizations of our society, but it all parts of our society.
This exchange of emails, as well as the video below, demonstrates another reason why engaging in frivolous, apolitical, publicly offensive, hedonistic exhibitions that provide fodder for the Holmes' and Donnellys' of the world are not only counterproductive, but play right into their hands by supporting their false stereotypes of LGBT people that they thrive on, purvey, and which garner them much and undeserved support.
The last thing that is needed in the fight for full and equal civil and sacramental rights for LGBT people is to provide credibility and seeming legitimacy to those who make a veritable career out of demonizing LGBT people, and who aggressively advocate for their second-class status as citizens in society!
Although it's gut wrenching to hear, listen to the testimony of Elaine Donnelly that she gave before the House Armed Services Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives on the issue of repealing DADT.
This video further hammers home some of the hateful and ignorant mind-set that we're up against:
