This man is stupid enough to express what many clergy and their followers feel who inhabit most of the institutional Church! I have absolutely no doubt that in the U.S. the Sunday before the Presidential election, many, if not most, clergy will be preaching on "the sanctity of marriage" from the pulpit and how "it's the duty of every Christian to vote." Given their tax exempt status, they are not allowed to express which candidate for whom to vote, but they really don't have to. The message for whom to vote is indirectly made very clear, and we can be sure that most all "evangelicals" will go to the polls and vote for McCain.
When Christianity can be perverted in such a manner as expressed by Rev. Dr. Peter Mullen, the Chaplain to the London Stock Exchange, it is high time for those who take Jesus and the Gospel seriously to speak out and condemn this perversion; we are to recognize that such "religious" hatred is not confined to the U.S.
If we don't rise up and condemn such hatred, we are just as culpable in its expression as is this hater who wears a collar!
And after public some public revulsion was expressed, he had the temerity to state:
"But the rector insisted that he meant to harm: 'I wrote some satirical things on my blog and anybody with an ounce of sense of humour or any understanding of the tradition of English satire would immediately assume that they're light-hearted jokes. I certainly have nothing against homosexuals. Many of my dear friends have been and are of that persuasion. What I have got against them is the militant preaching of homosexuality.'"
In regard to having a "sense of humour," none of us should view the expression of hatred as a laughing matter!
